The 1930s :: Technology and Computing's Beginnings

• 1934 :: The Communications Act of 1934 is ratified by Congress.
  
• 1935 :: Hewlett-Packard is founded.
  
• 1936 :: Alan Turing publishes On Computable Numbers, in which he detailed the design of a theoretical digital computer.
  
• 1937 :: John Atanasof concieves the Atanasof-Berry Computer (ABC).
  
• 1938 :: German scientist Konrad Zuse builds the Z1 and Z2, his first two electromechanical universal computing machines. Orson Well's War of the Worlds radio broadcast causes panic and the power of mass media is born.
  
• 1939 :: Mathematics professor John Atanasoff completes prototype of electronic binary computer. It represents the first application of electronics to automatic calculation.
